When a string of murders of company execs begins taking place, Aoshima jumps at the opportunity to pursue something other than his current case, which he finds less than inspiring. However the powers that be have other ideas, and Wangan again plays host to a special investigation team from headquarters, led by Superintendent Okita, whose inflexible methods, reliance on technology over old fashioned police work, and condescending attitude towards the locals quickly leads to one fiasco after another, with the local officers working to clean up the resulting mess. Aoshima's friend Superintendent Shinji Muroi, assigned by headquarters to assist Okita, is again powerless to help the local officers as decisions are made by the higher ups.

Synopsis : Dear Friends follows a high-school student named Rina (played by Keiko Kitagawa) who believes that friends are not necessary and that they can only be used in times of need. Thus, she is unable to maintain a decent relationship with her friends and classmates. Her family's relationship is also lacking; her father does not care much about his family and her mother is over-protective.
Rina eventually discovers that she has a terminal illness and becomes hospitalized for an indefinite amount of time. In the hospital, she is not visited by her family, but by one of her classmates named Maki (played by Yuika Motokariya). Although Maki tells Rina that they were friends in primary school, Rina does not remember her, so Maki takes the opportunity to re-connect with her. A young girl (played by Mao Sasaki) who is also hospitalized tries to become friends with Rina, but she holds fast onto her mantra of friends being unnecessary.
Throughout her hospitalization, Rina begins to lose hope as her well-being falls apart, and she decides to jump off the hospital rooftop as she feels that no one no longer cares about her. However, she is stopped by Maki, who stabs herself in the chest with a knife and declares that she will share the same pain as Rina and that she does not want to lose her friend. Rina shows some hope again when she realizes that she can find friendship in Maki.
This movie adapted from the manga "Dear Friends" by YOSHI, and art by Ayu Watanabe.

Yuichi went on a trip to Okinawa during the summer of 1999 with his closest friends, including class president Shusuke Hoshino (Shugo Oshinari). During their trip, Shusuke Hoshino encounters a near death experience after falling into the water. Also, while they are on the trip Shusuke's parents divorce. Shusuke returned to school for the fall semester as a completely different person. That's when the bullying began for Yuichi.

Synopsis : This movie based on a novel authored by Hare Kawaguchi. Akari is neglected by her father, a top surgeon who works long hours and puts his career before family. Her mother is hospitalized because of an incurable disease. Therefore, Akari longs for a dog who can keep her company. One day, a Golden Retriever puppy unexpectedly appears in the garden of Akari's house, and Akari immediately decides to adopt it. At her mother's suggestion, Akari christens it "Socks", because the puppy's white paws made it look like it was wearing white socks. Her mother also made Akari promise that she will follow the The Ten Commandments of Dog Ownership when she takes care of Socks. Akari also has a friend, Susumu, who is groomed by his family to become a professional guitarist. Susumu soon forms an attachment with Socks as well.
A few months later, Akari's mother died, and Akari grieves over her death for two days. After that, her neck became very stiff and she is unable to move it. With Socks help, she discovers that this stiffness is actually due to her own imagination, and is thus "cured". She also finds out that Socks was actually placed in the garden by her mother. Not long after Akari's mother died, the family moves to Sapporo because her father was given a lecturer post at a university there. However, they cannot bring Socks along because their dormitory does not allow pets. Hence, Akari has to reluctantly entrust Socks to the care of Susumu.
Another problem surfaced when Susumu was accepted into a prestigious music school in Paris. On the day that he was leaving, Akari's father, who was supposed to be on leave that day, was suddenly called back to the hospital to do an "emergency" operation. This caused Akari to be late in seeing Susumu off. The "emergency" operation turned out to be a minor one, and he resigned after feeling guilty about disappointing his daughter. The family later moved back to their old home in Hakodate, and Socks came back to stay with them. Akari's father later set up a clinic in the home, which proved to be popular with the locals.
10 years later, Akari is a university student studying to become a vet. By chance, she happens to see a poster advertising Susumu's upcoming performance in the city. The pair had a tearful reunion, and they soon started dating. During this time, she starts to feel that Socks is a constrain to her. She starts to bemoan the sacrifices that she have to make because of Socks. After Akari graduates from university, she becomes a zookeeper at Asahiyama Zoo. Akari seldom returns to her home, and neglects Socks in the process. However, she was reminded of the good friend Socks was again when it helped Susumu gain confidence to play the guitar again after his accident.
As time passes, Socks starts to age and becomes weaker. Akari was shocked at how much weaker Socks looked on one of her rare visits home, and promises to visit it often. However, due to her heavy workload, she is unable to fulfill that promise. One day, her father phoned her urgently to say that Socks was dying. Managing to get away from her work, she rushes back just in time. As its energy saps away, Akari read the Ten Commandments of Dog Ownership again to see if she had done what she had promised 10 years ago.
After Socks's death, Akari and her father found long-lost photographs of Socks, and a letter from her mother. The letter tells Akari that Socks was meant to replace herself, though she added that Socks will not live as long as Akari. Akari was also reminded of the fact that her father sacrificed his career for her. Not long after, Akari and Susumu got married together. So touched movie..., recommended !!!

Synopsis : At a medical instrument manufacturing company, timid engineering scientist Michio Hayasaki (Koji Yakusho) struggles to develop a robotic chair that could mobilise a clinically paralysed person. He realises he's not getting anywhere with it. Not while his company keeps making demands and issuing deadlines on him. Highly stressed, he bitterly realises he doesn't have the courage to bite back.
While arriving home from work, he's startled to find himself waiting on his doorstep. He soon sees it's not him, but a man who's the splitting image of him. Fearing he's having a mental breakdown, he wonders whether a legend that says one is destined to die soon after seeing own doppelganger may be true. His apparent twin (also Koji Yakusho) smoothly assures him that he has nothing to fear. He's a doppelganger. Bemused, Hayasaki invites him to his home.
He eventually notices that while his doppelganger is identical to his looks, mannerisms and speech, the doppelganger's personality and attitude are drastically different from his own. Where he's too timid to get what he wants, his doppelganger has no qualms in getting what it wants. Where he's too afraid to speak out, his doppelganger speaks its mind. Where he's moderate with drinking, the doppelganger indulges heavily. Where he's detail-oriented, it doesn't pay much attention to details as it's more concerned with the end result.
As his doppelganger removes all sources of Hayasaki's stress, reorganises his life for better, acquires all things he's yielded for, does rebellious things Hayasaki couldn't do, and assists with building the robotic chair that frustrates him for so long, Hayasaki learns to enjoy his doppelganger's seemingly nihilistic actions.
He soon wonders whether his doppelganger has an agenda when he realises he's being dragged into madness.

Regarding the love-hate relationship between them, Kurosaki is also forced to admit that his feelings towards Katsuragi are complicated. Katsuragi is the person he hates most, but also the closest person to him. Eventually he begins to wonder whether, in fact, Katsuragi is simply using him.

Also, the familiar faces such as Dr. Takuma and Kin at the tobacco store are still around, joined by new members such as Mutsuko’s childhood friend Takeo Nakayama and others, and it appears that the Third Street neighborhood is still bustling with warm-hearted exchange and lively activity.
This movie won 2008 (31st) Japan Academy Prize Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role & Outstanding Achievement in Sound Recording.
